MSC Air Cargo Launches First Malpensa Flights Post-AlisCargo Acquisition

MSC Air Cargo has successfully launched its first flight from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) after acquiring AlisCargo Airlines. This inaugural flight, operated by a Boeing 777 freighter (I-MSCA) under AlisCargo, departed earlier this week for Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). The newly introduced service will run twice a week, according to the company.

Last year, MSC acquired a majority stake in AlisCargo Airlines, finalizing its complete acquisition this year. Previously, MSC Air Cargo relied on Atlas Air for its flight operations.

The integration of AlisCargo’s resources and expertise, along with the addition of a new Boeing 777-200 Freighter, is set to strengthen MSC Air Cargo’s commitment to innovation, while maintaining the MSC Group’s Italian roots. According to Jannie Davel, senior vice president of MSC Air Cargo, the acquisition and the arrival of this new aircraft are key steps in advancing MSC’s air cargo strategy.

The arrival of the 777 marks the introduction of Italy’s first new widebody freighter in over 40 years. MSC Air Cargo now boasts a fleet of five 777 freighters, with four still operated by Atlas.

Additionally, MSC Air Cargo has introduced its first specialized product, Shipped Pharma, with plans to achieve CEIV certification by mid-2024.
