Throughout 2024, major European air hubs saw a significant increase in cargo volumes, with Vienna recording a record growth of 22%. Trade between the European Union and the rest of the world remained strong, with a 20% year-on-year rise, solidifying Europe’s position as a key player in international air transport.
In Asia, e-commerce expansion continues to drive growth in air cargo, with positive outlooks for 2025. Despite challenges from tariffs imposed by the United States and stricter regulations, the balance between demand and supply remains tight, with no signs of relief in available capacity pressures.
In the Middle East and Africa, exports remained strong at the end of 2024, with high air freight rates driven by strong demand for both sea and air transport. Despite recent geopolitical developments, such as the Gaza ceasefire, it is expected that freight rates will remain elevated in the foreseeable future.
