Fifty Years Guiding the Shipping Sector

In 2025, Assagenti celebrates its 80th anniversary and, on this occasion, also marks the 50th anniversary of the Practical Manual of Maritime Traffic, first published in 1975. Since its debut, the manual has become a key reference for the entire maritime and port sector in Italy. It has served as an essential training tool for students, professionals, and operators seeking to stay current in a constantly evolving industry.

The new edition, presented in April 2025 at Palazzo San Giorgio in the presence of Deputy Minister for Transport Edoardo Rixi and Federagenti President Paolo Pessina, was coordinated by Gian Enzo Duci. It features contributions from the Assagenti secretariat—particularly Iolanda Garzia and Sergio Tripodi—as well as a team of experts, including several involved in the previous edition and new voices bringing fresh perspectives. The manual’s thirteen chapters offer a clear and structured overview of maritime logistics, addressing topics from maritime geography and port systems to ship operations and professional roles in the sector.

Special attention is given to maritime contracts, insurance, P&I Clubs, and the various types of maritime agencies, including both liner and tramp services. Passenger transport and the rapidly growing yachting sector are also covered. More than just a handbook, the manual is a current snapshot of Italy’s maritime industry and a testament to Assagenti’s long-standing commitment to training, culture, and innovation.
