Maersk Air Cargo has received the first of two new Boeing 777 freighters, with the second expected by the end of September. This 777F was delivered at Boeing’s Seattle headquarters and is set to arrive at Maersk’s hub in Billund, Denmark, on July 13. The order for these aircraft, placed in November 2021, is part of Maersk’s fleet modernization efforts. Upon arrival of the second 777F, Maersk Air Cargo’s fleet will consist of two 777Fs and twenty 767Fs.
The 777Fs will operate on the route from Billund to Hangzhou, China, initially with three weekly flights, later increasing to six. These aircraft will enhance capacity and reduce transit and handling times. Notably, this delivery marks the first time a Danish airline owns a Boeing 777. Maersk Air Cargo, established in April 2022, began scheduled flights to Hangzhou in March 2023. The airline has also applied for a UK operating license to support its European operations, using 767F aircraft.
Lars Jordahn, head of Maersk Air Cargo, expressed enthusiasm about upgrading their fleet with these advanced freighters, emphasizing their significant payload capacity and fuel efficiency. Narin Phol, executive vice president, highlighted that the new aircraft will improve route efficiency and space availability, meeting the growing demand for integrated supply chain solutions. The control over air freight capacity and asset management is crucial for enhancing resilience, visibility, and flexibility in the current logistics environment.
