Strange as it sounds: what’s in common between a shark and a Boeing777 for air freight? Nothing, apparently, but it turns out that aerodynamics engineers can learn a lot from aquatic animals and use what they learn in air freight.
A new film called AeroSHARK was tested a few days ago. This extremely fine film was applied to a Boeing 777 that made a long 8 hours flight. This peculiar material mimics the microscopic structure of a shark skin and manages to optimize the airflow over it, reducing resistance and contributing to fuel and emission savings.
